Data Reduction & Pipeline Scientist
Position description
The Data Pipeline Scientist develops data processing systems that transform raw signals from the
radio telescope into scientific results. They apply data correction and calibration algorithms, assess
data quality, and write scientific reports with their findings.
.
Responsibilities
- Designing and developing pipelines in collaboration with the Software subteam in order to process data from the SDR
- Applying corrections, calibration and noise reduction algorithms to observational data
- Analysing data products (e.g. H I spectra) to extract results
- Visualising spectra for analysis
- Assessing data quality by identifying (potential) problems in the observation process
- Writing scientific reports on methodology and results (e.g. using Overleaf)
- Working closely with the Software subteam
Recommended Skills: Python (specifically libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Matplotlib,
etc.), digital signal processing (optional), statistics, GNU Radio, GitHub, knowledge of FITS
(optional), basic Astronomy/Astrophysics knowledge
Skills You Will Develop
- You will learn to develop data pipelines and process scientific data
- You will learn to apply signal processing techniques and statistical analysis
- You will learn to code in Python
- You will gain experience in visualising scientific data
- You will become familiar with writing scientific reports in LaTeX
