Material and Analysis Engineer

Position Description
This position will give you the opportunity to develop your skills and broaden your thinking on engineering design, material strength and manufacturing processes by combining your engineering knowledge using CAD and FEA analysis programs to build parts for a radio telescope.
Useful skills for the position
  • Experience in mechanical design and particularly in CAD 3D design programs.
  • Experience in 3D CAD programs, especially in 3D CAD and especially in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs.
  • Basic knowledge of statics and material strength.
  • Experience in basic manufacturing processes and material selection.
Responsibilities
  • Research and analysis for the design of a radio telescope support base and rotation mechanisms.
  • Analysis of radio telescope frame, truss and parts using FEA program.
  • Testing and testing of materials and selection of materials and processing treatments for the manufacture of components.
  • Working with the rest of the team to address technical challenges and optimize the final design.
Skills You Will Develop
  • Design in CAD:You will learn to design and edit models in a 3D design environment.
  • Analysis in FEA simulation program: You will learn to design, edit and analyze models in a 3D design and force analysis environment.
  • Understanding material properties Full understanding and familiarity with material properties and finding the appropriate material through libraries.
  • Astronomical Applications: You will learn to analyze mechanisms which in collaboration with robotics will have the potential to be applied to real astronomical systems, enhancing your knowledge of radio telescope observation and motion.
  • Solving Technical Problems: You will gain skills in solving problems that arise in the research and design of support bases and torsion mechanisms of a truss, improving your critical thinking and solution finding ability.
  • Teamwork: You will develop collaborative skills, communicating and contributing to a team that combines technology and science.
