Mechanical Engineer
Position Description
This position will give you the opportunity to develop your skills and broaden your thinking on mechanical design by combining your mechanical knowledge through the use of CAD programs and the construction of parts of a radio telescope.
Useful skills for the position
- Experience in mechanical design and particularly in CAD 3D design programs.
- Basic knowledge of statics and material strength.
- Experience in 3D printing (FDM).
Responsibilities
- Research for the design of a radio telescope support base and rotation mechanisms.
- Design in CAD program of the support base and rotation mechanisms as well as other internal components.
- Working with the rest of the team to address technical challenges and optimize the final design.
Skills You Will Develop
- Design in CAD: You will learn to design and edit models in a 3D design environment.
- Astronomical Applications: You will learn to build mechanisms which in collaboration with robotics will be applied to real astronomical systems, enhancing your knowledge of radio telescope observation and motion.
- Solving Technical Problems: You will gain skills in solving problems that arise in the research and design of support bases and torsion mechanisms of a truss, improving your critical thinking and solution finding ability.
- Teamwork: You will develop collaborative skills, communicating and contributing to a team that combines technology and science.
